Thanks to Invisalign, Giovanni Pernice’s smile will be a perfect 10 on Strictly Come Dancing 2017
Living his life in close-up with frequent appearances on the TV screen, on social media and in the press, Strictly Come Dancing star Giovanni Pernice is acutely aware that he is minutely scrutinised by the show’s fans. And it’s not just his abs and his Paso Doble that come under the spotlight. He is also noted for his bright nature and constant smile, which has made him particularly concerned about the irregular condition of his teeth. He was eager to have them straightened before the start of the Strictly 2017 season.
However it was imperative that any dental treatment he undertook did not impact in any way on his training or his dancing performance. Also important to him was that treatment should be discrete, because he felt it would not be aesthetically pleasing to flash a mouthful of metal braces at his audience while performing.
Last year his 2015 Strictly partner Georgia May Foote (above) underwent Invisalign treatment, and she had showed him how the clear aligner system discretely repositioned her teeth. He saw that the aligners were virtually invisible (some even call then contact lenses for teeth) and he opted for the same treatment. In addition to having no impact on his performance and training, Giovani was delighted that with Invisalign he could also enjoy his other passion, Italian food, while undergoing treatment. Because the aligners are removed for eating no food need be off the menu.
Giovanni was keen to complete his treatment before the next series of Strictly Come Dancing, which starts in September 2017, and is on course to do so by changing his aligners every week rather than every two, until recently two weeks was the standard recommendation.
Giovanni explained, “I always say the smile, especially when you work in television, is one of the most important things – it is what everyone looks at first – and I have always wanted my teeth to look better. I was very conscious of my teeth. Soon they will be much better, thanks to Invisalign you will see me with a different smile.”
His dentist, Dr Rhona Eskander (above with Giovanni) added, “Gio is a dream patient. He complies 100% by wearing his aligners 22 hours a day, no matter whether he is working, training or socialising. As a result I have been able to speed up his treatment and change his aligners every week instead of every two. While everyone else will be scrutinising his moves on Strictly, I will be glued to his smile.”
