The inaugural Good to Great Event promised “inspiration and practical advice”, did it deliver?
On 8th June over 50 practice teams gathered in London to listen to some of the country’s leading dental business experts and learn the secrets for running a successful practice.
Organisers explained: “This unique forum was designed to provide the whole dental team with inspirational, individualised support and advice to help boost profits, run more efficiently, and fill their practices with happier patients.”
Delegates were greeted by their Concierge, or personal guide for the day, who also presented each practice with their bespoke Growth Plans, each based on surveys completed prior to the event.
The first speaker was David Taylor, the “Naked Leader”, who offered “The Formula for Guaranteed Success”, which boiled down to “never give up”. David was followed by Ben Flewett, MD of Software of Excellence, who shared insights about enhancing and streamlining each patient’s journey through the practice.
Tina Mohindra, owner and manager at the Whitebridge Clinic and Diamond House Dental Practice, said: “We are progressive practices but wanted to see how we can improve further.
“The concierge service in the morning was an excellent idea and gave us a great overview of the areas that would be of most value for us. David Taylor’s presentation was absolutely brilliant!”

Paul Green, founder of Growth UK, outlined his concept for achieving the ideal work/life balance. He offered practical tips about maximising practice profitability while also improving the patient experience – with the ultimate aim of spending more time on the things that matter most.
There followed a personal talk by Dr Dev Patel, who, in just four years, has taken his practice from 60% NHS to 90% private. He highlighted both the importance of digital dentistry in the transformation and the key role played by his team.
Good to Great keynote lectures were interwoven with 15-minute “Bite-Sized Best Practice” sessions covering a variety of topics including marketing, building business using new treatments, digital dentistry, empowering the team, business planning, and the practice sales journey.
Attendees were also free to explore seven Business Zones, where experts offered workshops and advice about practice growth, patient communication, the digital pathway and more.
Sue McVey and Marzena Zak from Sussex Dental Group were excited to share what they had learned with their team. They said “The first lecture was great and opened our eyes to the whole day. We enjoyed the Bite-Sized presentations as these were short enough to whet your appetite, leaving you to go and find out more information if required.”
Delegates agreed that The Good to Great Event 2018 delivered on its promise of inspiration, practical advice and bespoke guidance for practice teams looking to improve their businesses. The organisers plan to make it an annual highlight in the dental calendar.
