The DTS team offers top tips for a happier healthier YOU!
Investing in yourself is important for both your personal happiness and your professional career development. Here are some top tips towards making sure you are investing sufficiently.
Setting professional goals for yourself will help you target your learning and development in the most relevant areas, and within a defined time frame. This provides direction for your career and will enable you to monitor your progress as you can tick off the list as you complete tasks you set for yourself.
Look after your health
Dental professionals are passionate about caring for patients and helping improve their health and wellbeing. It’s important not to forget the same messages for yourself – only if you are healthy will you be able to deliver the best possible service to dentists and their patients. Planning holidays or short breaks, eating well, getting in some exercise and enjoying time out with friends and family are all part of this.
Organise your finances
It’s important that you are investing in your current and future self. Ensure you have your financial affairs in order, with an effective pension or savings scheme set up so that you needn’t worry about life after full-time employment.
Seek training and further education
Regularly making the time to attend training courses, workshops and educational events is important for your professional development. Be strategic so you can ensure that your learning is relevant to the goals you have set. During busy periods of the year, allocating time to read up on new materials and concepts once a week or month can be easier than attending courses, so finding a balance will help ensure you are always advancing your knowledge and skills.
Engage with the wider profession
Much of the above is easily achieved by engaging with the dental community and attending conferences. Dental Technology Showcase (DTS) is the perfect example, providing a platform from which to cover nearly all of these areas. By attending, you can develop your knowledge and skills; gain fresh ideas and inspiration; meet new people and re-engage with existing acquaintances; discover new products, materials and techniques; speak to experts in everything from technology to finances; join professional organisations and societies; and liaise with some of the most well-known and highly experienced professionals in the global dental technology arena.
Invest in yourself – make sure you don't miss the opportunity to learn and grow at DTS 2019.
DTS 2019 will be held on Friday 17th and Saturday 18th May at the NEC in Birmingham, co-located with the British Dental Conference and Dentistry Show.
