BACD Annual Conference 2019: “A powerhouse in dental education”
Talking to Dental Review a BACD spokesperson said: “The past two decades have seen exciting advances in cosmetic dentistry. New materials, cutting-edge technology and improved procedures have made it easier than ever for patients to enhance the function and appearance of their smile. In reflecting such developments, the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD), has become a highly dynamic community of supportive members who share a passion for cosmetic dentistry.
“As part of its ethos to promote safe, effective and high-quality care, the BACD offers members and non-members alike the opportunity to take part in a wide range of social and educational events. This November, the Academy will be welcoming clinicians from across the UK and abroad to its Sixteenth Annual Conference, which will focus primarily on Delivering Excellence: Tradition vs. Innovation.
“This highly inclusive three-day event will enable dental professionals of all experiences to benefit from the very latest industry insights, providing the opportunity to network with peers and other likeminded individuals.
“As always, the BACD Annual Conference will offer an exciting programme of hands-on workshops and engaging lectures presented by some of dentistry’s most respected clinicians.”
Dr Elliot Mechanic
Among the world-class speaker line-up is Dr Elliot Mechanic (above). He has become widely recognised as a pioneer in the field of dental aesthetics, having been an early user of dental implants and performing one of the very first documented cases of porcelain veneers in 1983.
Dr Mechanic has been practising multi-disciplinary, restorative and aesthetic dentistry in Montreal, Canada since 1979. He has completed hundreds of smile makeovers and his work has been featured within numerous national and international publications. As the aesthetic editor of Canada’s Oral Health journal, Dr Mechanic is also on the editorial board of Dentistry Today.
He is a diplomat of the American Board of Esthetic Dentistry, a Fellow of the European Society of Cosmetic Dentistry, a Fellow of the International Academy of Dental Facial Esthetics, and a Fellow of the American College of Dentists. Dr Mechanic also maintains his membership at the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.
Dr Mechanic is ideally placed to deliver an interesting hands-on workshop at the Conference, exploring how to create high quality temporary dental restorations.
Speaking about his session, Dr Mechanic says: “Dentists often have to return restorations to their chosen laboratories for adjustments, which may require multiple patient appointments. During my workshop, I will show delegates how to use my suggested techniques to get things right first time. We will look at the basics of impression taking, bite registration, diagnosis and smile design.
“We will also go over the basics of creating artistic temporary restorations and how to use them to communicate exactly what we require from a dental technician. Many dentists work very inefficiently, repeating steps and often doing things that are not really necessary to treatment. I will try to provide delegates with a simple approach they can follow and demonstrate to them the most appropriate materials to use to achieve the best results.”
Dr Mechanic adds: “I have presented hands-on workshops at past BACD Annual Conferences and have seen this event develop from its infancy to the respected powerhouse it is in today’s world of cosmetic dentistry. I believe the BACD is the biggest reason why British dentistry has evolved so rapidly and is known worldwide as a dominant platform within our profession.”
Embodying the BACD’s commitment to delivering top-class dental education, Dr Mechanic’s workshop on “Provisionals” will be just one of many at this year’s Annual Conference. Other speakers include Dr Mauro Fradeani, Dr Paolo Nardinocchi, Dr Tony Rotondo, Dr Josef Kunkela, Mr Daniel Dunka, Dr Elliot Mechanic, Mr Phil Reddington, Dr Oliver Harman, Dr Julian Caplan, Dr Eric van Dooren, Dr Isabella Rochietta, Dr Koray Feran and Dr Luis Bessa.
The BACD spokesperson concluded: “Delegates will also have the chance to explore the latest dental equipment and materials at an eclectic tradeshow exhibition, where leading manufacturers and suppliers will be on-hand to offer professional advice and guidance. The BACD’s exclusive Gala Dinner will also provide plenty of opportunity for delegates to relax and socialise with friends and colleagues.
“To make sure you don’t miss out on Dr Mechanic’s hands-on workshop – or any of the other exceptional sessions at the BACD Annual Conference – save the dates in your diary today!”
