UZB in Basel is Dentsply Sirona’s ISCS team's first major Swiss university project

For the very first time the International Special Clinic Solutions (ISCS) team at Dentsply Sirona has completed a major project at a Swiss university.

University dental clinics, the school dental clinic and public dental clinic of the University Center for Dentistry in Basel (UZB) have been brought together in the new building, allowing patient treatment, teaching, and research to be carried out under one roof.

Since 2019 dentists, dental and prophylactic assistants, and hygienists have been performing more than 80,000 treatments a year in the new, five-story UZB building. Bringing everything together means that personnel, patients and students enjoy the best possible infrastructure for work, a complete range of treatments, and an innovative learning environment.

Dentsply Sirona’ ISCS team was selected as project partner after a public tender, and has been involved with this pioneering project from the ground-breaking ceremony through to the handover of keys in August 2019.

UZB provides state-of-the-art dental care at cantonal, regional and national level, and, as a Basel-based centre of expertise for dentistry, offers both primary care and specialist treatments for demanding cases, in addition to university research and education.

Thanks to the pooling of expertise and strengths in a single location, the UZB is said to now provide: “More efficient interdisciplinary exchanges, less bureaucracy, and enhanced teaching and research”.

The UZB opted for 84 Dentsply Sirona Sinius treatment centres with the optional endodontics and implantology functions, as well as a further five Intego Pro Turn treatment centres, which enable ergonomic working for both right- and left-handed users.

In addition, 57 intraoral Heliodent Plus x-ray units will be used throughout the building, while dental students and dental technicians have 33 simulation units at their disposal. Both students and teachers are also supported by a multimedia teaching system.

Vionex clinical equipment management software solution offers safe hygiene management for all Dentsply Sirona treatment centres and simulation units. The units’ hygiene and technical status can be quickly monitored from anywhere in the clinic, and ensures smooth work processes, the highest possible hygiene standards and comprehensive work documentation.

Andreas Stutz, CEO of the UZB, applauds the project: "The University Center for Dentistry in Basel, UZB, chose Dentsply Sirona because its offering best satisfied the criteria. In addition to the price and functional requirements, we set store by reference projects, services and support.

“Delivery, installation and commissioning of the 89 treatment centres and the 32 simulation units in the phantom hall went without a hitch, something which certainly cannot be taken for granted. Just a few months after commissioning, we can confirm that, based on user feedback, the decision to choose Dentsply Sirona was spot on."

The first delegations of foreign university deans, professors and dental specialists have seen for themselves how this impressive project operates against the backdrop of day-to-day university life. The next major Swiss project for Dentsply Sirona’s ISCS will be the Center of Dental Medicine in Zurich.
