Dentsply Sirona Global Clinical Case Contest 2020/21 winners

Every year, through its Global Clinical Case Contest (GCCC) Dentsply Sirona honours dental students for their outstanding achievements in the field of aesthetic dentistry. This year the final round was once again held virtually, during which an international panel of judges selected the three best contributions of clinically challenging case studies.

A Dentsply Sirona spokesperson explained: “Young dentists all over the world are passionately committed to skilfully creating the beauty of a radiant smile. The Global Clinical Case Contest recognises particularly talented dental students. Due to COVID-19 restrictions the competition judges revealed this year's winners during an online global judging event on 24th June.”

Dr Terri Dolan, Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer at Dentsply Sirona, welcomed the finalists to the awards ceremony. The winners were chosen by an international panel of three judges, Prof. Dr Rainer Seemann, Dentsply Sirona’s Vice President Global Clinical Research and Scientific Support, Prof. Ian Cline (UK) and Prof. Gaetano Paolone (Italy).

• First place went to Emin Ismaylov from the State University of Medicine and Dentistry in Moscow, Russia.

• Second place went to Rosalba Diana from the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Milan/Rome, in Italy.

• Third place was jointly awarded to Lizhong Sun, Sichuan University, China, and José Muñoz Peñalver, Universidad Católica San Antonio in Murcia, Spain.

Dentsply Sirona’s Senior Manager of Global Clinical Education, Dr Markus Kopp, observed: "This year, once again, some students were unable to participate due to the difficult situation in their country. Nevertheless, the Global Clinical Case Contest remains a fixed element of the curriculum for universities around the world.

“In this way, we are sending a clear signal regarding the ongoing collaboration between Dentsply Sirona and the global academia. By exchanging information with talented international dental experts, we are able to consistently develop our portfolio of innovative restorative dentistry materials.”

Emin Ismaylov said: "I think it's great that Dentsply Sirona gives young professionals the opportunity to prove their skills and motivate us to develop further."

Since 2005/05 the Global Clinical Case Contest has invited dental students with less than two years clinical experience to document their successful treatments, supported by a tutor from their university. For direct restorations in the anterior and posterior region participants receive Dentsply Sirona’s complete restorative product range free of charge.

This year's competition attracted over 390 students from 91 universities worldwide. Finalists will receive a copy of the textbook "Direct Restorations in the Posterior Region" – co-authored by Prof. Paolone.

The application process for the Global Clinical Case Contest 2021/2022 is due to start in summer 2021. For more information, visit www.dentsplysirona.com/gccc or contact your local Dentsply Sirona branches.
