Sanjay Sethi: Focusing on Lava Zirconia at the British Dental Conference and Dentistry Show 2018
The British Dental Conference and Dentistry Show 2018 is a noteworthy event on any dental professionals’ calendar. This year, international lecturer Sanjay Sethi is presenting his session entitled “A retrospective clinical review on Lava Zirconia restorations over the last decade” in the BACD Aesthetic and Digital Dentist Theatre.
Sanjay is in private practice in London and has a special interest in aesthetics and dental implantology. When asked to provide an outline of what delegates can expect from his session, Sanjay said: “Zirconia first made an impact on the UK dental market around 2005 and ever since has gone from strength to strength. With a high flexural strength, fracture toughness, translucency and aesthetics it is an extremely popular choice. However, it is not without its problems and there have been some steep learning curves to be climbed. I believe that we are still understanding this material and increasing the limits of its usage in restorative dentistry.
“During my presentation I will show and review some clinical cases which I have documented over the last decade. This will give us the opportunity to evaluate them under function and during ageing before applying the power of hindsight. I also intend to cover current and future trends and we will consider case selection for zirconia restorations as well as looking at alternative framework designs for these types of aesthetic restorations.
“By the end of the session it is my hope that delegates will be better equipped to make sound decisions about when to use zirconia restorations. It should make them more aware of the choices they are making – providing a comfort zone for some and reassurance for others. I will highlight the importance of clinical preparations and impressions to ensure accuracy and fit, thereby reducing the risk of future micro-leakage. I will help delegates to realise and understand the importance of being involved with the laboratory design of frameworks, and relate my experience and advice, which I hope will assist and empower delegates when guiding and discussing cases with dental technicians.”
Sanjay concluded: “The British Dental Conference and Dentistry Show 2018 is a fantastic event and I really enjoy speaking, spreading the word and catching up with old friends. I also believe that education is about sharing – everyone can learn from one another by sharing experiences and giving each other ideas.”
