Henry Schein Dental UK supports HOPE B-lit oral and general healthcare mission in Uganda
Henry Schein Dental UK demonstrated its commitment to oral health for the people in Uganda with a donation of healthcare products in support of HOPE B-lit’s HOPE BEYOND BORDERS Health & Wellness Programme. HOPE stands for Holistic Opportunities and Purpose of Education.
HOPE B-lit cooperates with the Ugandan Dental Association and the Uganda District Health Office (DHO). As part of this programme, it organised an oral health screening and held workshops on oral health awareness, oral hygiene, water hygiene and reproductive health from 19 to 23 September 2017 in Kkona West village, Lukwanga parish in the Wakiso district near Kampala.
During the mission 15 volunteer healthcare professionals, of which 10 were dental students, took care of more than 3500 patients, mostly children. The camp was organized under the expert guidance of the Oral Health Board advisor for Hope B-Lit, Dr Rainy Surana.
Dr. Rohini (aka Ruhi) Hak, Founder of HOPE B-lit, said: “The campsite support of Dr. Aditi Mansukhani and the teamwork of volunteers from all over the world made the camp a huge success and many children were given smiles.
“Nikita Limbu, a pathologist and Hope B-Lit volunteer from the United Kingdom, told us that the joy and relief that women and girls got from the 5000 sanitary pads that were donated as a part of the grant. It made all the volunteers realise how grateful and thankful we are for the generosity of the International College of Dentists (ICD) Global Visionary Fund (GVF) and companies like Henry Schein that come forth to share their success through giving back to the world.”
HOPE B-lit is a non-profit organisation under the Bayfield Foundation based in Southern California, USA. The organisation was founded in 2008 with the aim of promoting academic excellence and improving the quality of life for students through values-based education.
The organisation is driven by volunteers made up of young working professionals and students. The HOPE BEYOND BORDERS programme aims to provide oral care for 5000 children and sustainable water for three years for over 150 families.
Its stated primary mission is to “provide a comprehensive platform for children to nourish their core inherent human values via human value based workshops and overall health awareness.”
Henry Schein’s donation is part of the company’s partnership with the ICD GVF, and an initiative of Henry Schein Cares, the company’s global corporate social responsibility programme.
Simon Gambold, Henry Schein’s Vice President Marketing EMEA Dental Group, explained: “HOPE B-lit’s mission to educate and deliver healthcare and the Henry Schein Cares focus on increasing access to oral care and building capacity in the delivery of healthcare services are a perfect fit.
“Therefore, we are delighted to be able to support the HOPE BEYOND BORDERS Health & Wellness programme to enhance the oral health of disadvantaged people and above all of children in Uganda through our cooperation with the International College of Dentists.”
