Henry Schein supports Dentistry For Every Village Foundation outreach in the Philippines
For more than three years, Henry Schein has supported the Dentistry For Every Village Foundation* through its partnership with the International College of Dentists’ (ICD) Global Visionary Fund (GVF).
In September, the team led by Edgardo (Ed) A. de la Vega, Founder and President of the Dentistry for Every Village Foundation, organised a dental mission to Malvar, Batangas, Philippines – together with the ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Tulong Center, the Rotary Club of Malvar and members of the Las Pinas Chapter, Philippine Dental Association.
This outreach provided basic and emergency dentistry for those suffering from oral health due to poor access to health care facilities, lack of education, or poverty. During the outreach, the team of volunteer dentists, dental nurses, and auxiliary personal saw more than 240 patients.
The health care professionals performed oral exams, prophylaxis, restorative fillings, application of fluoride sealants, and extractions. In addition, patient education sessions on oral health care were given and toothbrushes and fluoridated toothpaste distributed.
“Congratulations to the members of your organization. Hopefully, projects like these will continue to happen for the benefit of our community,” said a local patient seen during the mission.
The Dentistry For Every Village Foundation, Inc. was founded in 2015 with the mission to improve access to dental care to remote villages in the Philippines. The Foundation also operates two additional charity dental clinics in the Philippines and organises quarterly dental missions with the help of sponsors.
It also plans to award scholarships to senior dental students in the Philippines who are in need of funds to complete their education and training. The funding for the Foundation is generated from donations and grants.
Henry Schein’s donation is an initiative of Henry Schein Cares, the company’s global corporate social responsibility programme. Health care activities supported by Henry Schein Cares focus on three main areas: advancing wellness, building capacity in the delivery of health care services, and assisting in emergency preparedness and relief.
In recognition of this commitment, Henry Schein was recently named on FORTUNE’s “Change the World” list, an annual ranking of companies that are doing well by doing good. Henry Schein was recognised for its efforts to improve the oral health and, by extension, overall health of underserved populations around the world.
The “Change the World” list recognises companies that have had a positive social impact through activities that are part of their core business strategy.
