Henry Schein and ICD support child health with SALCET

Henry Schein and the International College of Dentists’ (ICD) Global Visionary Fund (GVF) have once again supported SALCET, the Salvadorian Children’s Earthquake Trust, and joined with Dr Eroni Jjunju, dentist at Mata Dental Clinic in Masaka, Uganda, to fight oral diseases and educate children regarding the importance of oral care.

Mata Dental Clinic started conducting outreach programmes to the community, schools, and NGO children’s projects as a way to further their work to enlarge the reach of patients. Currently, about 3,500 patients benefit annually from these ongoing outreach programmes.

During the mission which took place from 19 to 26 March, 2019, Dr Chris Jagger, Chairman of SALCET, Dr Eroni Jjunju, and the SALCET medical mission team, took care of more than 60 patients. In addition the team provided patient education sessions on oral hygiene and oral health – including instructions in toothbrush use.

SALCET was established in 2005 in response to the emergency and long term rehabilitation needs of children damaged by earthquakes and other natural disasters in El Salvador and other vulnerable countries. Its key activities are the provision of medical and supportive care to children affected by earthquakes, resourcing health care infrastructure, and addressing specific healthcare needs in poor communities. *

“Henry Schein is honoured to once again partner with SALCET and contribute to long-term programmes that support those in need; above all the needs of children,” explained Patrick Allen, Managing Director of Henry Schein Dental UK. “With this mission, SALCET not only contributes to their oral health but also their total health and thus their future.”

Henry Schein’s product donation is an initiative of Henry Schein Cares, the company’s global corporate social responsibility program. Health care activities supported by Henry Schein Cares focus on three main areas: advancing wellness, building capacity in the delivery of health care services, and assisting in emergency preparedness and relief. The support for SALCET is part of Henry Schein Cares’ long-term partnership with the ICD Global Visionary Fund.
