Promethean Dental Systems: “The machine does the grading”
Promethean Dental Systems claims it is on a mission to “elevate dental education and practice” through its patent-pending 5-Stage system. Using the latest digital dental equipment and virtual haptic simulators, Promethean aims to provide: “An entirely new mode of education in an objective way for students where the machine – not people – does the grading.”
The Georgia USA-based company (with a 2nd location in Michigan) launched in 2019. A spokesperson explained: “We provide educational courses and services across the entire dental life cycle. From applying to a dental school or hygiene programme, to retirement from a career as a licensed professional, PDS is augmenting traditional educational requirements.
“We are transforming dental education through the use of advanced, integrated technology. PDS is currently partnered with three Dental Schools, two Dental Hygiene Programmes, and has partnerships in place with the Kilgore International, CRDTS Testing Agency, multiple State Dental Boards, Modal 3D, Future DDS, and CRET.
“As the word gets out about our transformative system, we will begin partnering with more organisations that can benefit from our services.”
How it works
The spokesperson continues: “PDS has an exclusive relationship with the Simodont virtual haptic dental trainer and has created a multimodal system of education courses with research-proven dental fidelity that enables fair standards and objective assessments. We have created an outstanding learning experience while also promoting a high level of ethics.”
The patent-pending system covers five criteria of learning:
1. Pre-dental/hygiene and international student admissions
2. Dental and hygiene students, both on track and who need remediation
3. Dental and hygiene graduates seeking a license to practice
4. Dentists and hygienists continuing education courses
5. Dentists and hygienists requiring remediation or re-licensure
These separate learning stages are tailored to the individual and range from the proof of general skills found in dental professionals to the remediation and re-certifications of experienced professionals. PDS also provides installation,
configuration, basic and advanced training, and curriculum integration services for the Simodont trainer.
PDS CEO Scot Armstrong adds: “Promethean has made some initial waves during the short time we’ve been in operation, but we’ve only just begun. Our goal is to elevate dental education through the use of advanced technology. We
want to support existing educational institutions and provide a new model of learning, the Simodont virtual haptic dental trainer.
“We promote multimodal learning for all of our customers, which helps them learn faster and in more depth. We want to utilise the multimodal learning foundation to migrate dental education to a model that uses dental fidelity and fair standards for machine testing and objective assessment, elevating dental education for students, faculty, administration, board candidates, and licensed professionals.”
