Dentists: Don’t get caught out by the 10 in 2 rule – check your CPD now!

As part of the Enhanced CPD scheme, introduced for dentists in January 2018, dentists are required to complete a minimum of 10 hours of CPD in every rolling two-year period.

As we approach two years from the scheme’s introduction, the General Dental Council (GDC) is calling on all dentists (besides those who joined the Register in 2018 or 2019) to check the number of CPD hours logged to make sure they have – or will have – complied with the rule before 31 December 2019.

GDC Executive Director, Registration and Corporate Resources, Gurvinder Soomal, said: “We all know that completing the required amount of CPD is a prerequisite for continued registration. We want to make sure that no one falls foul of the 10 hours in two years rule, and the way to do that is for all dentists to check their CPD record now.

“If someone finds they have not completed enough there is still time to put it right, but time is running out which is why we’re making this appeal now.”

The easiest way to check the number of CPD hours logged last year is to visit eGDC. The regulator also provides further information and guidance relating to Enhanced CPD online.
